Colleagues,
You may know Julie Anderson as the Pierce County Auditor but may not, unless you saw her recent post on Tacoma Affordable Housing Advocates on Facebook, realize that she has personally been helping a homeless veteran.  With her permission, I am putting her request out to all of you.  I know this is pretty unusual and there are many homeless people who need help but if you can do so,

Here is Julie's post edited to remove names:

Needed: Compassion and a little piece of property. A garage, empty lot, or commercial parking area for parking a small stationary camper.

We have been hosting and helping a man and his dog  for quite a while now. He lives in a wheeled handmade camper that isn't motorized. He has no car. He lives on SSI and food stamps. He has disabilities and isn't able to work. A navy vet. Homeless for many years. He has accessed services and is on a Rapid Rehousing waiting list with 300 veterans in front of him. He will not leave his dog and doesn't want to abandon his camper, which has kept him alive for the last year.

His trailer has been reluctantly tagged by TPD and he has 72-hours to move his camper at least one mile. Central Tacoma or along Pierce Transit Route 1 strongly preferred.

We've been through the entire maze of social services and he has accessed everything that is available. There simply isn't enough housing. We need a private citizen or business to say yes and allow this man, his dog, and his camper to sit on their property. We will take responsibility for moving him and continuing to help. We  have personally hosted him and can attest that he is polite and self-sufficient.  We look forward to any resources.

If the camper gets towed, we'll need a foster home for Sheba and storage for any belongings that can be retrieved from the camper.

Thank you, friends!

And from Julie's message to me yesterday:
Please emphasize that he has a large dog (quiet, friendly, but will chase dogs and cats), smokes marijuana in vaporizer, and his camper is NOT motorized. He needs an extension cord w access to electric, as well as water hose. And because he depends on food banks and is on foot w dog, he needs to be near major bus line and grocery.

Many thanks,
