Please see the dshs.wa.gov/esa website contains all information and updates. TANF will not be affected. This info is specifically for SNAP benefits which will be distributed by Jan. 20 and as of current info, no distribution again until March. The purpose of the original email is to prepare people receiving SNAP to budget for bi-monthly distribution.
As providers we NEED to prepare our clients for this and also to be aware that many people will NOT budget efficiently thus having food resources available.

There’s been a lot of conflicting information regarding SNAP and TANF benefits.

Could we please have someone from DSHS respond directly here?

Subject: Homeless Coalition - Regarding SNAP and TANF benefits during the shutdown

From my contact at DSHS

Good morning, as of right now we’ll continue to process SNAP and TANF. If the shutdown continue clients will continue to receive TANF/ ABD  as they are state funded programs. We were also inform that they more likely sufficient funds to issue March food benefits.
