Colleagues,

We all know that part of solving homelessness is having homes that people can actually afford to live in - housing that is safe, affordable to them, appropriate, and permanent.  Washington State has a great State Housing Trust Fund but that isn't enough for what we need to do.  The Housing Trust Fund comes out of the State's Capital Budget and competes with schools, new behavioral health facilities, and all manner of things.  So the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance has put together a package of $600 million worth of funding - $200 million from the Housing Trust Fund and $400 million from changes in tax policy.  Here's our chance to really make a difference.  You can click on the link sign on as an organization and you can also sign on as a board member or as a community member.  Please share this email with others.  The more signatories, the more we show our legislators the breadth of support for housing.  Thanks.  Maureen

We're facing an unprecedented affordable housing and homelessness crisis in Washington. Solving that is possible but it requires doing things differently. We can't be satisfied with inadequate investments in affordable homes. We need – and our communities deserve – bold action!

That's why we're telling state lawmakers to go BIG for homes this year and pass a $600 million funding package for affordable homes. This includes a $200 million investment in the Housing Trust Fund in the capital budget, plus policy changes to create more local funding and new revenue to be dedicated to the Housing Trust Fund.

We've teamed up with the affordable housing consortia and local homelessness coalitions around the state to mobilize all of our members to make sure that legislators get the message loud and clear.

Go to 600million4homes.org today to sign on to letters to lawmakers supporting this package.

And mark your calendar for February 21, for a virtual day of action.

Here's the plan:

Between now and February 21, we're asking organizations to sign on a letter supporting this package. We're also collecting signatures from nonprofit board members and other community members.

After you sign on, help spread the word by sharing the website with your colleagues and others in your community. You can share via email, or social media (use the hashtag #600million4homes).

Then watch your inbox for an action on February 21 and be sure to contact your lawmakers that day. Resident Action Project members will be in Olympia that day delivering sign on letters to lawmakers. And in case that's not enough to get their attention, we'll also host a Twitter storm between 11 and 1.

This legislative session is different. There is so much momentum to make progress and make sure more people can live in safe, healthy, affordable homes. Let's seize this moment!

Thanks,
~rachael
