Colleagues:

Lots of information on the call today but here are a few highlights from today's Washington Low Income Housing Alliance call:  Remember, anyone may join this call - every other Friday from 12-1:  1-866-339-4555, access code is 206-442-9455.  Next one is March 1.

You can track all bills at www.leg.wa.gov and click on Bill Information on the left menu.

Shut-off for policy bills - Friday, Feb. 22 - all must pass out their committee.

1.  All eviction bills passed out of House Civil Rights & Judiciary - this is Rep. Laurie Jinkins' (D-27) committee.  1453 was amended to reflect negotiations with the public housing authorities and some for-profit landlords.  The amendment changed the days to 14 (original bill was 21) for notice of termination.

What happens next?  Most go to House Rules where a Rules committee member will have to pull them to be heard on the House floor.  Some have Senate companion bills.

2.  Support 1591 - Rights of Homeless Persons is scheduled for Executive Session in House Civil Rights & Judiciary on 2/20.  Cities and counties are opposed.

3.  Oppose 5882 - This is NOT a good bill even though it has some bipartisan support.  This bill restricts the location of many kinds of homeless housing options and feeding programs to more than 1000' from public and private schools and early childhood programs.  There will be a hearing Monday 2/18 in Senate Housing Stability and Affordability.  IF you want to testify, email Michele Thomas today and coordinate with her.  michelet@wliha.org

4.  For current eviction reform action.  bit.ly/evictionreform3

5.  To add your organization and/or your name to the Alliance's Sign-on letter for the $600 million request for a robust investment in affordable housing: 600million4homes.org

6.  To register for Housing & Homelessness Advocacy Day, Thursday, Feb. 28 , go to www.wliha.org and click on Housing & Homelessness Advocacy Day - registration deadline has been extended.

That's it for the call - more information coming in email #2.

Thanks for your work,
Maureen
