Hello! HB 1440 would give a 60-day notice for rent increases and would prohibit rent increases taking place during a lease term. There is an exception if the rent is based on the tenant's income, in which case the landlord must provide 30 days notice.

The bill passed in the House but still needs to get voted out of a Senate committee. We got this protection as part of the Tacoma Rental Housing Code, so let's make sure it applies across the state!

Organizations can sign on to the letter here by 730 pm tonighthttps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PassHB1440

Thanks so much!

Subject: 1440/Robinson re: 60 day notice for rent increases - sign on letter - sign on by 5:00 today

Hi everyone,

HB 1440/Robinson would require 60 day notices of all rent increases and would prohibit rent increases taking place during a lease term. There is an exception if the rent is based on the tenants income in which case the landlord must provide 30 days notice.

The bill passed the House with bipartisan support, was heard in the Senate Financial Institutions Committee, but hasn't yet been scheduled for a vote. It must be voted out by April 3rd. Please consider adding your organization's name to a sign on letter urging the bill to be moved out of committee. You can simply sign on by quickly filling out the survey (link is below) - where you can also read the letter. Deadline to sign on is tonight at 7:30. Please spread the word.

Thanks.

Michele
