Subject: Take Action Now! Oppose HUD's Proposed "Mixed-Status" Immigrant Family Rule
To: Maureen Howard <maureenhowardconsulting@gmail.com>

Dear Maureen,

The Washington Low Income Housing Alliance is once more teaming up with the National Low Income Housing Coalition and the National Law Housing Project for national day of action Wednesday June 26 to oppose HUD’s proposed “mixed status” rule.

Would you join us and send a clear message to HUD that the proposed mixed-status immigrant family rule is harmful and cruel, and could lead to the eviction of over 100,000 people from HUD-assisted housing?

Submit HUD comment here

HUD's proposed rule would force families of mixed immigration status to break up in order to receive housing assistance, to forego the that assistance altogether, or face being kicked out from the programs. If implemented, this rule will directly impact thousands of immigrant families’ access to housing and put thousands more at risk of homelessness. 55,000 children could face eviction if this rule goes into effect.

The July 9 deadline to submit comments opposing the proposed rule is approaching fast. Organizations and individuals can submit comments to HUD opposing this change here. The form includes and English and Spanish language comment portal. (Organizations wishing to submit a letter can access this template for ideas and sample language.)

This proposal isn’t about preventing undocumented immigrants from accessing federal housing assistance. Current law already prevents that. And it is not about using federal housing resources more efficiently. HUD’s own analysis shows that this will result in fewer households being served. It is the next in a series of attempts to instill fear in immigrants. Join us in standing with immigrants and saying no to this cruel proposal.

Thank you for taking action with us!
