Colleagues,

The Tacoma City Council took up SHB1406 - Local Sales & Use Tax for Affordable Housing - at their regular 5pm meeting on July 30 - and adopted  both the Resolution and the Ordinance.  This is great work by Jeff Robinson and the staff of Community and Economic Development.  Kudos to the Council for understanding how important the time line is.  I've attached the Memorandum on the Resolution and on the Ordinance.  You'll want to save these for reference.

From the Agenda:

RES40388   A resolution stating the City’s intent to authorize the maximum capacity of the tax authorized under the provisions of Substitute House Bill 1406 for affordable and supportive housing.  [Jeff Robinson, Director, Community and Economic Development]

ORD28599  (First and Final Reading) An ordinance amending Chapter 6A.70 of the Municipal Code, relating to Local Option Taxes, by adding Section 6A.70.047 entitled “Credit against state’s share of tax - sales or use tax for affordable housing - Imposition” and Section 6A.70.048 entitled “Credit against state’s share of tax - sales or use tax for affordable housing - Rate” to authorize the maximum capacity of the tax authorized under the provisions of Substitute House Bill 1406 for affordable and supportive housing; and declaring an emergency, making necessary the passage of this ordinance and it becoming effective immediately.  [Jeff Robinson, Director, Community and Economic Development]

Please do take time to thank the Mayor, Council and staff.  I think you can cut and paste this to email the Mayor and City Council:

Thank you for your work - especially if you worked on 1406.
