Subject: October Outreach Alliance Follow-Up

Hello Outreach Alliance!

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our first quarterly meeting yesterday – it was a good group, and we are grateful for the discussions that were held and the connections that were made. The purpose of this email is to share our rough schedule for the coming year, invite your input, and share some information on upcoming events and trainings available in Pierce County.

Outreach Alliance Schedule for 2020

·         January 2020 – Quarterly Meeting: Outreach 101, Mental Health First Aid

·         February / March 2020 – Special Event: Evening with First Responders

·         April 2020 – Quarterly Meeting: Outreach 101, Trauma Informed Care

·         May / June 2020 – Special Event: Legal Issues

·         October 2020 – Quarterly Meeting: Outreach 101, De-Escalation Techniques and Motivational Interviewing

Requesting Your Input

The first area I would like your input on is meeting times. Please email me back with your preferred option(s).

The second area I would like your input on is facilitators for trainings. Thanks to a generous donor, we have funds available to hire some top-notch educators for these trainings, and I want to get them scheduled, ASAP. Please send me any recommendations you have for the following:

Upcoming Events & Trainings – Please share with your colleagues, and those you encounter on the streets, as relevant.

Project Homeless Connect: October 11th - An event to serve those experiencing homelessness in Pierce County. This event offers services and respect to people living in their cars or on the streets. There are pick up locations throughout Tacoma beginning at 10:45am and running every 30 minutes until 2:15pm. Please see attached flyer for more details – it can be used to spread the word to those you encounter on outreach in the coming week!

Free CPR Courses: October 12th and 13th at Tacoma’s Eastside Community Center and Foss High School.

SBIRT & MI Training: Hosted by Goodwill in partnership with the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) Potentially Preventable Hospitalization (PPH) Initiative - Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)  teaches screening tools for substance use and mental health that help detect behavioral health issues earlier and conduct brief interventions to help clients get assistance. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a great way to have a supportive, person-centered dialogue with anyone – and help the other person think through barriers and options to making a healthy change, in a non-judgmental way.  Offered October 11th and 25th. I will have a confirmed date and time out for our January meeting by the end of October. In the meantime, please keep spreading the word about Outreach Alliance – and feel free to send me any feedback you may have!

Blessings,
