PORT ANGELES PASSES SALES TAX FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING
VOTERS APPROVE ONE-TENTH OF 1% SALES TAX
The measure will generate an estimated $325,000 in revenue for new construction of affordable housing, rehabilitation of existing housing into affordable housing and construction of infrastructure required for affordable housing developments.

$380,000 IN FUNDING TO GO TO LOW INCOME HOUSING INSTITUTE FOR CREATION OF TINY VILLAGE IN HILLTOP
Low Income Housing Institute will open and operate a 22-tiny house community for the homeless that can accommodate up to 35 people. The work is due to start immediately.

A top federal homelessness official announced Friday that he has left his post at the Trump administration’s request, an unexpected move that comes as the White House plans a sweeping crackdown aimed at homelessness in California.

ADVOCACY UPDATES
PIERCE COUNTY TO CREATE AFFORDABLE HOUSING WORKGROUP

Planning and Public Works Dept. along with the Human Services Dept. have been charged with establishing and facilitating an Affordable Housing Workgroup.

The group is to include staff from both departments, housing providers, and housing developers. The group will create procedures and an implementation plan from the recommendations coming from the Berk Report and the Mayors' roundtable.

Recommendations will include but are not limited to a code audit, a regional coalition for affordable housing, increased funding for fee waivers, land donation, review and utilization of available funding from public, private, grants, and foundations.

Reports from the group will be provided quarterly to the Council Human Services Committee and the Community Development Committee.

MDC TO HOLD MEETINGS ON TEMPORARY SHELTER SITES IN TACOMA

Metropolitan Development Council will hold two public meetings to discuss the issues and possible solutions related to the establishment of additional temporary shelter sites for people who are currently homeless within the Tacoma city limits. Each meeting will include food at the beginning followed by structured conversation, and we are seeking comments from members of the Tacoma community at large, members of faith-based organizations, nonprofits, and the community of those who are currently homeless.

Meetings will be held:
  • Wednesday, 11/20 @ 6 PM - 8 PM, Asia Pacific Cultural Center
  • Thursday, 11/21 @ 6 PM -8 PM, Asia Pacific Cultural Center
