****2020 Unguarded Incarcerated Artists' Art Auction****

This is one event that will be the highlight of my 2020.You have “PEOPLE” helping “PEOPLE”. - Karen Dhaliwal, Auction Co-chair

Incarcerated artists from WA State Department of Corrections' correctional facilities all over the state are donating art to be auctioned with the goal of raising money for social justice causes through the Unguarded Art Auction at LeMay America’s Car Museum, February 15, 2020. This year's recipient of all proceeds is YWCA Domestic Violence shelter programs in Pierce, King and Snohomish counties. The artists are excited to give back to the community, supporting others while they often need support themselves. The artists believe in the social justice causes that they are raising money for and have chosen to donate to the YWCA with the theme, "A Safe Place to Call Home" as homelessness in our communities has been a growing concern addressed by service providers and community leaders.  Please help us support this cause by attending the event, sharing with your networks, or becoming a sponsor. We are also accepting sponsorships for those who want to apply for a scholarship to attend the event. It is important to us to be inclusive to all who want to be a part of this awe-inspiring and unforgettable event.

“The event will feature more than 200 pieces of created and donated art ranging from acrylic and watercolor paintings to Native American beaded pieces, sculptures, jewelry, and more. Proceeds from the auction will be split among the YWCAs”- Rachel Friederich

“The YWCA Pierce County is thrilled to benefit from this fundraiser because it focuses on healing and empowerment. I have always believed in the power of the arts as a way to express what is going on inside someone’s soul. The arts provide inspiration and courage, which parallels the inspiration and courage of our clients who have all escaped domestic violence. What our world needs is more opportunities to experience the arts. This event is a win win win. The participants (artists) win by being able to use the arts for expressing what they are feeling. The YWCA wins because proceeds go to empowering women and their families to start new lives free from violence. Our programs focus on the arts as therapy. And the people who attend win because they get to purchase art, bringing beauty into their environment while supporting two great YWCA’s. Thank you for including us in this innovative and inspirational event.” Miriam Barnett, CEO YWCA Pierce County

"YWCA is the largest provider of DV services for African American women in King County, and works with partners across the region to deliver shelter and safety for survivors from all walks of life. We're thrilled to be part of the Unguarded Arts Auction and a community that shares our values of dignity, justice, and equity."  Maria Chavez Wilcox, CEO YWCA Seattle, King and Snohomish
