Colleagues,

The message is addressed to me but you can click on the big red button to send your own message.  This is an historic opportunity to help end homelessness in our State.

Thank you for your work,
Maureen

Hello Maureen,

I'm Mindy Woods, a Housing Alliance board member and affordable housing and homelessness advocate. I'm also a single mom and Navy veteran, and I have experienced homelessness. I've been at the state capitol a lot in the last several weeks asking lawmakers to fight for the investments we need to make sure everyone has a safe, affordable place to live.

Both the House and the Senate have released their budget proposals, and both prioritize ending homelessness! The House budget makes deeper investments though, and includes significant funding for permanent affordable housing, which is ultimately the solution to ending homelessness.

I’m writing to you today with a personal request to take action, because you have a lawmaker on a key budget writing committee. That makes your voice especially important! Will you take a minute right now and urge your lawmakers to do everything they can to ensure the final budget makes the most significant investment possible?

The Legislature got great news last week, when the fiscal forecast identified an additional $300 million in revenue. They’re calling it an extraordinary windfall. I think they should use it to make an extraordinary investment in ending homelessness. I told budget writers this yesterday when I testified in the House Appropriations committee and the Senate Ways and Means committee. Will you join me and send that same message to your lawmakers today?

Thanks for speaking up!
Mindy
