Good morning everyone,

A brief update:
1.  Seattle CU New Accounts Set-Up On-Line
Theresa Power-Drutis says the biggest problem they have encountered to date is folks not having their ID.  A current or an ID expired from Jan. 2020 to date is required to set up the Seattle CU account.  Some of you scan IDs at the point of entry into HMIS or some other agency system.  If so, and if those IDs remain "current," individuals who have lost their ID could contact you and request a copy.  Associated Ministries can help with money required for the ID.  I'm relying on those of you who do this everyday to figure out solutions that work during COVID-19.

I have started drafting Instructions for Providers and FAQs and will (hopefully) send those out later today/tomorrow.  Remember to keep sending me your questions/thoughts. Right now Theresa and I are thinking that we'll offer the program to a few more small transitional programs and see if there are more glitches to work through.  Theresa has agreed to ZOOM and/or Youtube train staff from all the shelters/homeless programs so you can help your guests/clients apply for these Seattle CU accounts with minimal hassle to the individual and to Seattle CU.

2.  The IRS Non-Filer Guidance - https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here
The IRS continues to update their guidance.  There is now a lengthy FAQ for non-filers.  It looks to me like people are going to need a fair amount of patience.  If you are going to help people complete the IRS part of actually applying for the money, you really need to take a good look at the IRS information.

It does not appear to me that you need an ID to complete the non-filer application - it just means you will get a paper check instead of being able to use direct deposit.

Finally, I'm thinking that information+practice+patience will result in many people experiencing homelessness actually getting their money!  Unless, of course, they owe child support in which case the IRS will keep the amount owed.

Take care everyone and thank you for your work,
Maureen
