The Coalition provided some recommendations (text at http://pchomeless.org/Home/COVID19 ) on CARES Act funding to Pierce County.  While Human Services Director Heather Moss did report directly back to the Coalition on Friday, she also provided a written response to the Coalition. That response is attached.  We did have some further discussion of Safe Parking at last Friday's Coalition meeting, and the County seems open to considering the proposal coming from the Safe Parking Group led by Janet Runbeck and Colin Deforrest. So, read that section of the response with that subsequent discussion in mind.

Thanks to all the Coalition members who provided input for those recommendations, for Megan Capes, Rosemary Powers and Maureen Howard for work drafting the recommendations, and to Pierce County, for soliciting the feedback and working the recommendations into their COVID-19 response strategy.  That's how concerned citizens, engaged agencies, and healthy government makes the magic happen. All part of the continuous do-learn-discuss-adjust-do cycle of service provision that helps us serve our community.  Yay us.

Thanks for sharing the comments from the Coalition, Gerrit.  I appreciate the ongoing dialog and was happy that both John and I had time to connect with the Coalition both this Friday and last to explain what we are working on in response to the suggestions you shared.  I’ve attached here a more comprehensive response to your letter.  As always, I’m happy to have additional conversation if you and other Coalition members desire.

Subject: Recommendations for strategic users of CARES Act Relief Fund to assist persons experiencing homelessness

Good morning.  Attached are CARES Act funding recommendations developed by the Tacoma Pierce County Coalition to End Homelessness.  We have appreciated the speed, focus and openness of the County COVID-19 spending to date. We offer these recommendations both for your consideration and as an invitation to a continuing dialog with the Coalition to ensure adequate shelter for all in Pierce County.

Thanks for your time,

 -Gerrit
