Hello,
I have a friend who called me today because her son in law committed suicide via gunshot to the head last night and his wife and children discovered him this morning.
They do not have insurance. He was dealing with job loss due to COVID, their car was just re-poed and it was just his birthday the day before. They are not homeless but definitely have been seeing hard times. Due to the nature of the suicide, the walls and floors need cleaning and until this is complete it is not habitable.
They need assistance with counselors, help to pay to have their home cleaned up so they can go back, help with a safe place to be while they wait for their home to be cleaned so they can go back. A way for the mother to possibly get some medication assistance with her anxiety and grief.
I do not know who to direct them to for some of these needs. My heart breaks for them and I have no words.
Are there services to assist the surviving family with this type of situation? Any feedback and ideas about resources are welcome.
