Air quality continues to be unhealthy due to wildfires. Pierce County EOC in partnership with City of Tacoma are working on a cleaner air respite for our houseless neighbors in Pierce County. Please share the details below with your networks.
Cleaner Air Space
Meridian Habitat Park
14422 Meridian East, Puyallup, WA 98375
Hours: 0800 to 1600
Salvation Army is providing drinks and snacks. New Hope Resource Center is staffing the location. Pierce County Parks & Recreation are providing the space. Currently, the space can accommodate up to 45 individuals while still complying with social distancing
and other COVID-19 guidelines.
The Health Department is in an advisory role on cleaner air spaces. We’re consulting on COVID-19 safety considerations for both evacuee shelters and this Clean Air Space. In air quality events like this, consider HVAC and filtration systems appropriate to protect
against smoke, but also continue to circulate air to drive down COVID-19. Our air quality EOC liaisons responded to various partners over the last week. We will continue to provide technical assistance and guidance.
Please direct any questions related to the Clean Air Space to Ivan Tudelaivan.tudela@piercecountywa.gov at Pierce County Department of Emergency Management.
Thank you to the activists, MRC volunteers and community members, including Coalition to End Homelessness, for organizing and advocating so fiercely for our homeless population. I’ll share any further updates as I learn about them.
Best,
Manu
