Hello,
THANK YOU SO MUCH for adding your organization's name to the sign-on letter to Gov. Inslee this week asking him to extend the eviction moratorium and prevent additional loopholes.
I want to make sure you heard that yesterday he announced in a press conference that he is extending the moratorium through Dec. 31st! This is a huge win, and even though we asked for March 2021, this extension provides security for the more than 140,000
tenants who reported they are behind on rent last month. We'll need your help again in December to make sure no one is evicted into homelessness in the dead of winter!
In terms of the details, no specific language has been released yet, so we don't know for sure what clarifications or changes are being made to the moratorium, but don't anticipate that there will be substantial loopholes included. We will need to confirm this
once the official language is public. You can keep an eye on the
Governor's Proclamations page for updates, if you're interested.
Again, thank you all for taking action this week and in the recent weeks to ensure renters can stay in their homes. Your voices have made a huge difference, and I look forward to continuing our collective advocacy together.
Finally, if you are interested in joining our biweekly COVID-19 Housing and Homelessness calls, we have one coming up next week! These calls cover many topics related to housing stability during the pandemic and are open to anyone.
