Office of Homeless Youth seeking caregivers of homeless youth and youth lived experts to develop a statewide strategy

The Office of Homeless Youth (OHY) is recruiting members for its steering committee

Office of Homeless Youth, in partnership with Innovations HTC and Communities of Color Coalition are recruiting lived experts to make policy and system changes. Sessions are scheduled to run from February to April 2021, subject to change. 

We are looking for:

  • Twelve youth lived experts:
    • We are recruiting 12 young people under 30 who experienced housing instability between 12 and 24 years of age.
    • Trans, LGBQ, Autistic, youth with mental health considerations will be prioritized.
    • Those who have experienced housing instability because of caregivers’ mental health considerations or substance use disorder are also invited to apply.
    • Fill out this form to apply as a youth lived expert.
  • Ten caregiver lived experts (parent, auntie, uncle, grandparent, chosen family):
    • We are recruiting 10 caregivers who have had to navigate gender identity, sexual orientation of their young person or accessing services mental health, or substance use disorder services for their youth.
    • Caregivers of adolescents with autism or intellectual or developmental disabilities will be prioritized in addition to;
    • Caregivers of adolescents who are personally navigating their mental health considerations or substance use disorder.

The steering committee will be made up of predominantly BIPOC folx, and they are key stakeholders in developing this plan. We also hope to provide the steering committee data, information, training and technology support to be a part of these conversations digitally. The 22 member steering committee will be made up of 90% BIPOC youth and families with geographic and identity diversity. We take confidentiality very seriously and will ensure that stories and content shared in the session will not be shared without participant permission

OHY plans to have ten sessions, each lasting three to four hours. Participants will be paid $150 for each session.
