Good evening Maureen,
It’s a big week for housing advocacy! I’m reaching out this week with an immensely personal ask for you to take action for affordable
housing and tenant protections. I am a mom and Community Health Worker in the Vancouver area serving our vulnerable neighbors and helping ensure that they have their basic needs met - and currently, my family is experiencing homelessness. Due to loopholes
in our eviction laws, our landlord forced us out of our home - in the middle of a pandemic - two weeks ago. These are predatory practices and landlords should not be able to do this. Without housing stability, how are people supposed to stay home and stay
healthy? Our families and children deserve stability and as I said in my testimony last week, "This is business for landlords, but it's life or death for us!"

Join me in taking action this week to keep critical legislation moving forward! We must create an ongoing statewide source of
rental assistance (HB 1277), enact just cause protections (HB 1236) and improve the eviction process (SB 5160) in order to prevent a massive increase in homelessness. In addition, we must make equitable improvements to our Growth Management Act and ensure
that people experiencing homelessness cannot be pushed further to the margins (HB 1220).
Each of these bills has an important vote or a hearing this week!

As you can see, we have a big week ahead of us, making it perfect timing for a
Week of Action with the WA Housing Consortia.
Join us all week long to let lawmakers know that housing is a top priority for Washingtonians!
Learn more about the
WA Housing Consortia priorities HERE and take
action to support housing investments in the budget HERE.
Send us a selfie with the hashtag #HomesForWA by Wednesday and tag us on social media or send to angelac@wliha.org
(this will be used for a collage sent to the entire legislature!) and get ready for a
tweet storm on Thursday from 10am-1pm!
