Yes, the short answer is that EVERY landlord must accept HEN funding.  If you find any that don’t, you can educate them on the SOID law, and if they don’t back down, make a complaint if in Tacoma, or contact NJP.  If you find a landlord in Pierce or Kitsap counties that refuses to accept HEN (or section 8), you can just e-mail me directly, and I can arrange a direct intake.

Hello,

Also, if the property is inside the City of Tacoma limits, it is considered a Fair Housing violation and the tenant can file a complaint.  The City of Tacoma considers source of income as a protected class under TMC 1.29, which is the Human Rights laws.

So, although they can file a civil suit under the RLTA ,they also have the option to file a Fair Housing complaint if the property is within the City of Tacoma limits.  They can file a complaint by calling 311 or 253-591-5000 or completing form online at Tacoma 311 (mycusthelp.com).

I hope this information helps.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you-

Hi all. It is technically illegal for a landlord to discriminate against a tenant because they are using government benefits or rental assistance programs to pay their rent. I know that many landlords have worked to find loopholes in this statewide protection, but outright discrimination is prohibited. You can find out more here. It is a useful resource to share with tenants working to find housing: https://link.edgepilot.com/s/315cee48/a9xa3EQo6EKEhj9Rie-2Uw?u=https://www.washingtonlawhelp.org/resource/tenants-new-legal-protection-from-discrimination-based-on-source-of-income

I would contact Shared Housing, they may have a list.  When I have had HEN clients in the past, properties that with do the section 8 paperwork will usually do the HEN paperwork as well.  Try 435 Fawcett apartments.

Hey Colleagues,

I was wondering if anyone has a lead on a list of properties that accept the HEN program funding.
