The COVID-19 Delta variant recently arrived in Pierce County. The number of cases are few but increasing. The variant currently makes up more than 17% of all Washington cases, and that number doubles every 10 days. CDC estimates the Delta
variant now accounts for more than 1 in 2 infections in the United States. Early studies show the variant may be:
➡ More transmissible than other variants.
➡ More likely to infect those who have already had COVID-19.
➡ More likely to cause severe infection and an increased risk of hospitalization.
➡ Able to reduce the effectiveness of vaccination for people who only received one dose of a two-dose series.
Early studies show all three vaccines offer good protection against the Delta variant if you are fully vaccinated. We have not yet reached community immunity. More fully vaccinated people is the best defense against all COVID-19 variants.
From January 17-June 26, roughly 98% of all COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths in Washington were among unvaccinated people. Nearly every death is preventable. Get fully vaccinated. Find your dose
