PUBLIC HEARING ON CAMPING BAN IN TACOMA
Tacoma Councilmembers are considering a law that restricts camping on public property. The latest draft proposes a fine of up to $1,000 and/or up to 90 days in jail for violating the potential camping ban.
The City wants to hear from the public and is hosting a Community Conversation to inform Councilmembers. Feedback will help shape recommendations that are presented to Council for actual legislation.
Please show up and tell Tacoma City Council NO camping ban! Being homeless should not be a crime. Camping bans do not alleviate homelessness - they create further barriers for those who cannot afford to pay steep fines. Arrest records also cause barriers to securing employment and housing. Investments in affordable housing, emergency shelters, and support services are the answer to solving homelessness.
