Depending on their situation, you may also want to look into the housing share program. Or apps like roommate finder.

    Hey team,

I wanted to see if anyone has any information on affordable housing. I only know of two places. Something affordable for people who don’t qualify for reduced rent, but can’t really afford the inflation of rent at the moment. I have people that want to stay in Tacoma area working w min wage and don’t have the means to travel from certain locations to their jobs. I am a little flustered by the cost of rent in places that are not really worth that much for the apartment. I am at a loss because people don’t want to live in certain locations because of drugs, homelessness, and crime. Please any light for this situation will shine.

Have a great weekend and thank you for any advice,

    Brenda

New Research (March 2022): HOMELESSNESS IS A HOUSING PROBLEM by Theresa Power-Drutis (26 Apr 2022 16:24 UTC)
Reply to list

The study was conducted by University of Washington professor Gregg Colburn and Seattle-based data scientist and policy analyst Clayton Page Aldern. I've attached one of the charts available from the Sightline Institute link below. T
"The fundamental conclusion is that the consequences of individual vulnerabilities are
far more severe in locations with less accommodating housing markets."
HOW DOES A PLACE’S HOUSING MARKET CONNECT WITH HOMELESSNESS?
These are the conditions—the structural factors—that explain the observed variation. In our data set, housing market conditions explain the most variation in rates of homelessness observed around the country. Cities with higher rents and lower rental-vacancy rates (i.e., tighter housing markets) see higher per capita rates of homelessness. This is where a fuller picture comes into view. Individual risk factors help account for who in a given city might lose their housing at any given point in time, but housing markets—rents and vacancy rates—set the context in which those risk factors are expressed. Without looking at housing markets, you can’t explain why Seattle has a much higher rate of homelessness than Chicago, Minneapolis, or Dallas. The fundamental conclusion is that the consequences of individual vulnerabilities are far more severe in locations with less accommodating housing markets."
FROM: Homelessness Is a Housing Problem - Sightline Institute
Sightline interviewed authors Gregg Colburn and Clayton Page Aldern about their findings. Their book, Homelessness Is a Housing Problem: How Structural Factors Explain U.S. Patterns, is available from University of California Press.
Ideas for Pierce County? Bring them to the Tacoma/Pierce County Coalition to End Homelessness - let's solve this.

    Good morning Everyone,

I am currently looking for employment and budgeting resources for our patients. That could be anything from employment agencies to free financial and or budgeting classes, resume classes, places that help individuals obtain personal documentation to gain employment. Also looking for possible agencies that would like to come and introduce their agencies to our patients. If anyone has any brochures for agencies  that help provide any of these services please feel free to send them my way.

Thank you all for your time.
