Thank you Gerrit,
I realize there are vast numbers of people much worse off than I, and in no way intend to give the impression that their needs are not important. Thanks for the clarification. I appreciate the guidance toward the home ownership connections. I will certainly look into these options. I felt as though it would not be worth my time or effort given my circumstances, but I am probably wrong on that score. Thanks for the push.

The homeless crisis response system is focused on people currently literally homeless – living on the streets, in their car, in an emergency shelter or fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence. Our communities’ eviction prevention programs focus on people who are in immediate risk of losing their housing. Because you are in stable housing, you are not eligible for these programs – those programs’ resources are reserved for people living in very dangerous situations.

It is possible you would meet the eligibility requirements of our public housing system. Eligibility for Tacoma Housing authority programs is at https://www.tacomahousing.org/resources/eligibility-for-public-housing/ and eligibility for Pierce County Housing Authority programs is at https://www.pchawa.org/ . Both housing authorities have waitlists that are not currently open – and often remail closed for years. There are just not enough resources to meet all the needs in the community.

There are other programs like Habitat of Humanity ( https://www.tpc-habitat.org/ ) and the Homeownership Center Northwest (http://www.hcthomes.org/)  that work towards home ownership. They have their own eligibility requirements, often with both minimum and maximum income thresholds.

I am glad you currently have safe housing, and wish you the best finding a situation you would find more agreeable.

Subject: Homeless Coalition - Re: stuck in the middle

Hello everyone.

Thank you for all you are doing in our community to assist the homeless.

I have a question and welcome all input. I'm chronically homeless but currently housed in shared housing for almost three years. I don't seem to fit the criteria for any guidance though I fit the bill for what is meant " homeless" by definition. I'm grateful for the shared housing I have but desperately desire a home of my own where my family and friends can visit freely and grandchildren can spend weekends. I don't know who to see, people/ businesses don't answer their phones, and when they do they barely hear what's being said before they shoo me off to the next non existent assistance center. I'm not mad. I'm in the middle.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hello,

I am working with a young client who has a Section 8 voucher and a felony background. Over the course of the summer, I have been working with two other case managers to find housing that will work with his background, but we keep getting denied. The lists I have for felony friendly housing seem to be out of date or won't get back to me.

This client has a felony assault charge and a juvenile sex offense. They participate in drug and alcohol classes, are actively seeking employment and meeting with case managers weekly. They are working hard and are moving in the right direction. They just need a safe place to land in order to fully harness their momentum.

We are seeking a studio or 1 bedroom in Tacoma, Lakewood or Parkland. Any ideas, resources, or suggestions are welcome.

Thank you,

Danica
