Hello Beautiful Community-
I’m writing to update you on our progress at the MLK site. Over the past weeks, we’ve been collaborating with the City of Tacoma staff, including Permitting, Code, and Fire teams, to ensure the site meets all requirements. Following a walkthrough today, we’re confident we can complete the final tasks needed to open within the next few days.
As temperatures drop and with the potential for a severe storm ahead, we are more motivated than ever to open our doors. It’s deeply frustrating to have a warm building sitting vacant when we know there is such great need.
During the inspection, we were required to revise our plans. The sleeping area will now be located on the first floor, and the second floor will serve as a day center for participants. While this adjustment was unexpected, we’re fully focused on adapting quickly to meet the necessary standards.
To prioritize these efforts, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the planned Community Meet and Greet.
In the meantime, we’re still seeking donations to help make the space as welcoming and comfortable as possible. If you have couches, rugs, TVs, artwork, tables, or comfortable chairs to contribute, please contact Brenna at brennaa@valeovocation.org.
Thank you for your patience and continued support as we work tirelessly to open our doors and bring our neighbors inside.
