Let’s get real about the future of rent stabilization – regardless of the desire of 72% of state voters in a recent poll,
it is not inevitable that 2SHB 1217 will pass. We are at a critical crossroads; now is the time to dramatically increase the pressure on lawmakers through flooding their inboxes with support for rent stabilization. The opposition
has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to kill this bill and or significantly weaken it. Renters across the state need relief from unfair, unjustifiable rent increases. Rents keep going up, and so do evictions and homelessness.
However, now is not the time to despair or slow down! People’s power is ALWAYS stronger and more plentiful than money and greed.
Now is the time to act together and let our lawmakers know that the people will not sit idly by and let unchecked greed win! Take action today and send your lawmakers a message right now that the passage of rent stabilization is non-negotiable.

I know that it is a very tumultuous time politically, and it can be extremely difficult to remain hopeful and engaged in the political process. However,
when we come together and work together toward our collective, common good, history tells us that we will win! The Housing Alliance has faced the odds of money, greed, and capital many times before – we didn’t back down then and we won’t back
down now! Please join us in relentlessly fighting for housing justice!
