Welcome to our new listserv.  In the future, please send listserv e-mails to fullcoalition@list.pchomeless.org .  As I mentioned earlier today, this listserv switch is designed to resolve a few outstanding problems.  One new feature is the daily digest – a way to see all the e-mail traffic each day, but in one single daily e-mail.  You can e-mail me directly to switch you to the digest (by default, you will receive each e-mail as it goes out) or just go to the listserv sign-up page at http://www.pchomeless.org/Home/Listserv and signup again with the same e-mail address you received this e-mail with, and check the “daily digest” option.

If you go to the listserv signup page, you might notice I’ve put a little website together for our Coalition at http://www.pchomeless.org/ .  I’m considering this the soft launch of the website.  Currently it just has some of the meeting information like agendas and minutes and such - I’m slowly working on adding them – and a bit about our committees, agencies that attend our meeting, and the form to sign up for (or unsubscribe from) our listserv.  I’m happy to add other stuff, so feed me ideas of what else we should add.

And now, some helpful reminders about listserv etiquette:

Large listservs work best when we are VERY careful when sending to the whole group.

SEND to the whole listserv:

·         Resource questions for the whole group (“What resources are there for families fleeing domestic violence”)

·         Announcements appropriate for the whole group (“Hire 253 event coming up soon”)

·         Resource information about your own organization (“CCS hosts a weekly Veteran Housing Group...”)

·         Notice by a resource requestor that the need has been filled (“Our client received the dog food they needed.”)

NEVER SEND to the whole listserv (just send to just the person making a request)

·         An email saying thank you

·         A question asking for more information about a resource request (“What size jacket does your client wear?”)

·         A resources only useful to a specific resource request (“We have a couple jackets left at our office, you can…”)

·         Resource information for an organization other than your own (“I think MDC has utility assistance, give them a try at…”)

NEVER SEND in any e-mail ever…

·         Identifying Information – names, physical descriptions, etc.

Of course, these are just guidelines, and we’ll all make mistakes of judgement or just accidentally reply all.  But keeping best practices in mind will allow this listserv to continue to thrive.

Thanks,

-Gerrit
