Subject: Training opportunity

Hi Jennie!

Happy Tuesday 😊

I know it is short notice, but next week we are hosting a 2 hour virtual qualitative data collection training Thursday the 21st in the morning that I wondered if you or others you engage with in community might be interested in participating. Particularly those serving and supporting our unhoused neighbors or those with marginalized identities.

The training will consist of the following:

• Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the significance, value, and application of qualitative research methods.

• Explore the essential elements of effective interview and focus group facilitation, covering the development of data collection guides, adept note-taking, summarizing statements, and logistical steps for implementing qualitative data collection through interviews and focus groups.

• Engage in hands-on learning through practical sessions, allowing participants to apply didactic knowledge and develop skills in establishing rapport, successful probing, and effective interviewing techniques.

• Ground individuals in the practical aspects of collecting qualitative data, emphasizing best practices in focus groups and interviewing.

• Focus on elucidating the fundamentals of data collection, probing techniques, and various skills applicable to interviews. This will be followed by a dedicated section on focus groups, culminating in a practice session.

• Participants will be invited to complete pre and post surveys, and in appreciation of their time and effort, they will receive a stipend of $100 for their participation.

Qualitative methods, such as interviews, focus groups, and open-ended surveys, allow organizations to gain a deep understanding of the perspectives, experiences, and opinions of stakeholders. This rich insight is often more nuanced than quantitative data and helps organizations understand the context in which they operate. It is also super useful for assessing the effectiveness of programs and interventions. It helps organizations identify what aspects of their initiatives are working well, what needs improvement, and how programs can be adapted to better meet the needs of the community.

I would love to see future collaboration with TPCHD and others using these tools to make a deeper impact in the community with assessment and planning at the City and County level to really make an impact for those most vulnerable.

I hope I can count you in, and I just need names and emails of anyone else you think might be interested!

Thanks so much and let me know if you have any questions!!
