Hello,

I provide staff support for the Pierce County Commission on Refugee and Immigrant Affairs and I’m happily passing along this information that was shared by our Vice Chair, who is a lawyer with Northwest Immigration Rights Project. There are “know your rights” fliers, English and Spanish, that can be given to community members and an advisory for service providers. Please feel free to join our commission meetings that take place the first Monday of every month, 5:00pm-6:30pm. We have a meeting happening today. Here is the link to the commissions webpage: Refugee and Immigrant Affairs | Pierce County, WA - Official Website

Thank  you Esmeralda.

Hi Mara,

We have a strong commitment to our Hispanic/Latino community and PSD, Communities In Schools, our 4 food banks and a couple of churches really take the lead in supporting them locally.

Any information / ideas you can provide that would help us understand the growing fears/concerns from the confusing orders to ICE to increase arrests and how we can increase the level of community support would be appreciated.

I do believe there is much more we can do and we will start this conversation at our

Feb. 6th GHKP Housing & Homeless Coalition meeting, 10-11:00 a.m.  then set a follow up, broader zoom meeting before the end of Feb.

Hello Bob and everyone in this email,

I have included Mara Eaton with Catholic Community Services in this reply as she can be a huge help, she is already doing something to help the Hispanic Community and I will let her share what options we have to get something going so we can better assist our Hispanic neighbors.

Thank you all for your dedication and love for our neighbors.

I'm very happy to share that Esmeralda has stepped into a position directly funded by Pierce County SVdP.  I have updated her email on this list as the one used in the original email no longer exists.

I'm going to let Esmeralda lead in information sharing, as she is the expert, and one of only 3 people in Pierce County who can conduct a Coordinated Entry conversation in Spanish.

Hi,

Our Hispanic community is now approx. 12% of our overall population and I'm asking what we as a community can do to help increase the level of contact and hopefully security many of our residents feel is being eroded by political changes.

Would a face/zoom meeting be of value to discuss/share what we could do as a community to proactively take this challenge and turn it into a way to increase our contact and build stronger ties with our Hispanic / Latino families?//

I'm not sure where to head with this, but would appreciate any input ...

Thx, Bob
