Good morning,
This is the NOFA from the Dept of Commerce.  Large nonprofit housing developers are already planning to apply for these funds.  Small nonprofits probably should not apply unless they really can be competitive.  Better to look for other sources of funding or to partner with a large nonprofit.

New funding available to develop affordable housing projects

Applications for capital funds due Sept. 15

The Department of Commerce Housing Finance Unit is happy to announce a new solicitation for projects seeking capital financing from the state Housing Trust Fund to develop affordable housing for people with low incomes in Washington.

Applications will be considered for the following types of projects:

  • Multifamily/rental
  • Homeownership
  • Community housing/cottage community

Applications are due to Commerce by Noon, Sept. 15, 2021. Award announcements are expected in December 2021.

Before you apply:

Please download and carefully review the 2021 Traditional HTF/Cottages Notice of Funding Availability (“NOFA”) for specific information regarding funding requirements and priorities, the process for submitting an application and dates of significance. The NOFA and application materials are also available on the Applying to the Housing Trust Fund website. Please note that several NOFAs are published on our website concurrently. This is NOFA #HFU-2021-02.

The 2021 Traditional HTF/Cottages funding round (stage 2) is primarily intended for applicants seeking to build new housing units that will increase the affordable housing stock in Washington.

Preservation and acquisition of existing housing are also eligible, but they are NOT the primary focus of this particular funding opportunity. Existing Housing Trust Fund projects seeking funds for repairs or rehabilitation are encouraged to apply to the Housing Preservation Program. A separate funding round for housing preservation will be announced this fall.
