We have a small group (4 to 5) of volunteers that would like to help with outreach/deliveries/etc. I don’t want to duplicate efforts - is there an area not covered that they could go to?

Where or who should I direct them to?

Thank you!!

I have a lot of toothbrushes left over from Project Homeless Connect (40-50?) – I can deliver to whoever is able to get them out there.

Subject: Inclement Weather - Summary from today’s hot weather check in meeting

Thank you to the 21 folks who joined the hot weather check in meeting this morning. Here are a few highlights from the meeting:

  • A number of folks are doing outreach in the Hilltop area, and there was a request that when people are doing outreach, if they have things like aloe to distribute to those who are showing severe sunburn, that would be helpful.
  • There was also mention that due to ongoing sweeps, a number of people have been asking for basic needs like toothbrushes and food items.
  • Paula Anderson asked if any other outreach teams would be working on the East side of the county today.

Paid outreach teams:

  • TRM was unable to join the call, but Maddy emailed to say that Team 2 will be out beginning at 10:30 a.m. to do outreach and provide water. They will have coolers with ice as well, and anyone can call the outreach phone number if they encounter needs that are not being met. Contact Team 2 at (253) 921-3063.

Pierce County Department of Emergency Management:

  • A number of acute hot weather response kits were assembled over the weekend to be used when encountering people who are dealing with serious health impacts from the heat. Kits include 2 bottles of water, cooling neck wraps, sunscreen, and SPF lip balm. These kits will be distributed for pick up later today at 3 locations - St. Vincent de Paul (S. 56th in Tacoma), New Hope (Puyallup), and the City of Tacoma Stability Site.
  • DEM will also backfill water supplies today at St. Vincent de Paul and New Hope.

West Pierce Fire and Rescue noted that they will provide additional water at each of their stations throughout the hot spell, and reminded folks that the University Place Library will be open for anyone seeking a spot to cool down.

Pierce County Libraries are open today and can be accessed for cooling.

Tacoma Public Libraries are not open on Mondays.

At this point, the City of Tacoma has not decided to open any additional cooling centers for access today. Caleb reminded everyone that people can use the Nativity House day center for cooling.

As a reminder, we will meet again on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. for a short hot weather check in meeting. Join at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/85985754396?pwd=TXM1ZFFoZXE5ZGJxbXExQ0lQdU9lZz09
