Hi everyone!

The City will be activating our inclement weather response during this potential flooding event for the next two days (Tuesday and Wednesday night). As a reminder, the City of Tacoma partners with funded shelter providers to ensure that unsheltered individuals have access to indoor shelter options during acute events. In addition to the Holy Rosary seasonal shelter 50 beds (which have been online since November 15th), we will expand the City’s shelter capacity by an additional 120 beds:

•             Tacoma Rescue Mission will expand Holy Rosary an additional 20 beds. Intakes will occur at their downtown campus at 425 S Tacoma Way, and individuals will be transported to the Holy Rosary site.

•             Catholic Community Services’ Nativity House (702 S. 14th Street) will be providing 80 overflow shelter beds.

•             Valeo Vocation (415 S. 13th Street) will be providing 20 overflow beds for young adults 18-24 years of age at the Beacon Young Adult Shelter.

During the winter inclement weather season, our HEAL team is also equipped with blankets, gloves, socks, hats,  and hand warmers to offer individuals living outside while they work to make connection to shelter.  The HEAL team also carries water and pet food for distribution all year round.

Subject: Re: Inclement Weather - Concerns for potential flooding and anyone living in flood-prone areas

Although there could be issues with water ponding up in low lying areas across the county, the primary concern right now is due to heavy runoff from the much heavier rains that will hit the mountains and filter down to the lowlands along river corridors. It doesn’t help that snow levels are expected to rise to around 9,000 feet before falling later on Tuesday.

Try to stay dry, everyone!

Hi everyone,

There continues to be some concern that the expected heavy rains that will begin hitting our region this evening and overnight into tomorrow could lead to flooding along local rivers and streams late tonight through tomorrow. If you are aware of sites where people are living along river banks where flooding could be an issue, please make an effort to contact folks and warm them of the potential for flooding.

I will provide more detailed updates using this mailing lists if specific warnings are issued regarding the Carbon, White, or Puyallup Rivers.
