I have always thought the CoC should include representation from legal aid so we can provide services as part of the ‘system,’ but have not been able to find a way to be involved. It may be that with RTC the focus may change, and eventually if we continue to be involved in the Coalition we may be there. I would not be the best representative of the Coalition but would love a seat at the table, I’m in for the long haul 😊

Good Morning CoC members. I was speaking with the Membership Subcommittee folks this morning regarding some vacant seats on the CoC. This is of high priority as it is expected that HUD will open the CoC application in the next few months and these seats are listed as HUD required and are included in our score of the community.

The membership committee would like to invite you all to invite folks to apply that might fill some of these seats. The application can be found here: https://www.piercecountywa.gov/FormCenter/Human-Services-18/The-Road-Home-Membership-Candidate-Appli-566

There are a few spots missing that HUD asks about specifically in the CoC Application that I wanted to bring to the CoC’s attention.

Housing Authority. While yes, we have THA we are missing Pierce County Housing Authority and the application specifically asks about all Housing Authorities in the area
School Admin/Homeless Liaison: We have 17 school districts and no representation on the CoC. We can have more than 1 School District on the CoC
CoC Funded Victim Service Organization: There are only two CoC funded DV organizations. Exodus Housing and Korean Women’s Association
CoC Funded Homeless Organization: List includes: Share and Care House, Metropolitan Development Council, Catholic Community Services, Greater Lakes Mental Health, Exodus Housing, Korean Women’s Assocation, and Helping Hand House
CoC Funded Youth Homeless Organization: No currently funded YOUTH homelessness organization though CCS serves more youth/young adults than other organizations
Community Representative/Lived Expert: No lived experts on the CoC with recent homelessness experience or in this specific seat (there are folks with lived expertise but they don’t fill this seat or are not sharing their experience publicly)
