Subject: Homeless service & housing providers, frontline staff: claim your appreciation gift by 5 p.m. tomorrow, 5/26!

Dear Maureen,

Thank you for taking some time to share some moments of triumph, appreciation, music, and art at our Annual Membership Meeting. If you missed it, you can view a detailed recap and recording of this meeting here

If you are a homeless service & housing provider or frontline staff, we've extended the time for you to claim your appreciation gift to tomorrow, Wednesday 5/26 by 5 p.m.; fill out this survey to get a gift card for a sweet treat and some original artwork. While you're at it, please take our Public Benefit Interest Survey to let us know what your public benefit training needs are.

Annual Membership Meeting Highlights

  • State Legislative Session Debrief: We were joined by Representative Tarra Simmons, Representative Nicole Macri, and Senator Patty Kuderer, who highlighted only part of the many historic wins from the state legislative session related to housing and homelessness. We're still processing the deluge of good news and information. We'll cover even more of these historic wins at our June 17 Membership Meeting. If you want to better understand the changes to housing policies and tenant protections, register here for Washington Low Income Housing Alliance's Friday, May 28 12 - 2 p.m. webinar on new statewide tenant protections: just cause, right to counsel, and more.

  • Public Benefit Training Interest Survey: Thanks in part to your advocacy, historic new investments in State and Federal public assistance programs are making their way to our community. Public benefit programs are a lifeline to the people we serve but can be tricky to navigate. The Coalition has brought on Sara Robbins, a public benefits attorney and advocate with decades of experience, to help us develop an on-going training series to help you navigate these systems. As we develop these training materials, we want to hear from you and the people you work with on what would be most useful to your work. Fill out our training needs survey here by 5 p.m. on Friday, 5/28.

  • Board of Director Elections: The Coalition on Homelessness is a membership driven organization. Each year, organizations that are current on their membership dues have an opportunity to cast a vote on our slate of Board or Director candidates. This year, we are honored to introduce the slate of three candidates to serve a three year term on the Board of Directors: Patricia Allen-Dick, Keiko Budech, and Nancy Connolly. Read about the candidates and board elections here.

We're co-sponsoring a Seattle Mayoral Candidate forum. Join us this evening, 5/25 to hear directly from candidates running for Mayor on a wide variety of issues—from affordable housing construction to tenant protections and utilizing new state and federal stimulus dollars. Candidates who have qualified for the forum and are confirmed to attend include Colleen Echohawk, Jessyn Farrell, M. Lorena González, Bruce Harrell, Andrew Grant Houston, and Lance Randall.

Please join us at Jason Austin's farewell celebration, next Thursday June 3rd 3 - 4:30 p.m. via Zoom! Jason has worked so hard the past two years to bring our members and community together. Let's all come together once more for Jason at an informal, drop-in virtual celebration. We will share stories and appreciation for Jason, and bid them a fond farewell.
