What the City Manager has said about how the city would implement the camping ban inside the buffer areas is that they would continue to post notices about removals and go through the same process that they are using now. The only difference
is that the City’s Legal Department will no longer need to prepare a legal case for why each individual encampment would be swept. From what the City Manager said, they will also still weigh the availability of shelter space before posting each sweep, which
is one reason that I don’t see this working out very well for the elected leaders who claim that they must “do something” with this ordinance, when no additional resources of shelter options are being created for people to use across the city.
At this point, the buffer zone map reads like instructions for where people can stay, just as much as where people cannot stay.

I went down to the J street encampment this morning, curious to see how many tents remained. There are a dozen. HEEL team does paperwork on Monday, some have flex schedules on Friday.
A question arises today about the camping ban. Will the City continue to post notices of pending sweeps? Is an ordinance to construed as notice for all? Would it be possible to have Allyson address pending plans and procedure changes? It’s above Caleb’s pay
grade.
And please keep your eyes open for any ribbon-cutting or pomp and circumstance at 35th and Pacific. No pats on the head, please. Will they post and sweep the encampment? Prepare welcome baskets for those choosing to stay? Perhaps something the Coalition could
prepare, with accurate resource contact information.
