I believe a vote to criminalize homelessness is wrong and encourage you not to vote in favor of this proposal. Enough time has been wasted on this issue, and attention needs to be given to services, shelter, and housing. Even as this vote comes before the council, sweeps continue and there is no place for people to go. This is a shameful moment in our city’s history, recalling the treatment of our indigenous population, Chinese, Japanese, historic red-lining, and now, treating homeless as less than human. That legacy needs to end. I encourage you to oppose this proposal.
